I have been wanting to blog and get caught up on here for awhile, but something always happens, I get distracted and just don't get around to it. Then I feel more and more behind and it's harder to get caught up. Then when I do go to blog, I find that I need to sync my phone to my computer so I can get recent pictures up and that's a whole process in and of itself. I feel like this is the "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," except it's "If You Want Kersina to Blog." So it's been 2 months. Oh well! But here's my attempt anyway.
At the end of April, we took a family trip down to San Diego. We went to Disneyland for a couple days and spent the rest of the time doing other fun things. Below is a picture taken at Ryan's parents home the day before we got to San Diego.
And of course, a silly one to go with it.
We stopped at Travel Town in LA. Benson loved the trains and Ryan enjoyed reminiscing. He used to go here a lot with his grandpa when they all lived in LA.
Disneyland Day 1: We were less than 5 minutes from the parking lot and got into a little fender bender. No one was hurt, thank goodness, but it was our (read: Ryan's) fault. He got distracted by some little girls walking on the sidewalk, dressed up as Anna and Elsa. He wanted Zoe to see them and didn't realize that the car in front of us had stopped. It wasn't the way I wanted to start our day, but it could have been worse.
Seriously: cuteness.
The kids tried their hands at pulling out the Sword in the Stone.
Benson fell back in love with Rapunzel.
While Ryan and Ruthie waited in the long (3 hour!) line to meet Anna and Elsa, we got to ride the Dumbo ride. Not a bad way to pass the time.
Worth the wait. The kids loved it.
We got good sidewalk seats and rested our legs while we watched the parade. It was a lot of fun and very magical for the kids.
Day 2: California Adventure
Benson got to meet a new friend: Jake. The kids are really into the Jake and the Neverland Pirates show right now so this was a lot of fun for Benson to meet him.
Remember this girl? Oh yeah, Ruthie! She had just barely started walking before this trip and we weren't sure how challenging that was going to be. It wasn't too bad. She spent a lot of time in the stroller, or strapped on someone's back (or front), but we got her out when we could and let her explore. She had her first sucker candy and man, that girl is hooked now.
We love the Ferris wheel. Poor little Zoe looks like she's about to get squished out of the picture. I like this ride because all you have to do is sit and everyone is completely caged in.
The carousel is always a good way to go.
At the end of our 2 day trip, we let the kids pick out a toy. Zoe got Peter Pan toys and Benson got Finding Nemo toys. Ruthie? Well, she's got her two fingers to suck on.
Back at our resort Zoe and I went on a s'mores date.
We spent a day at the beach in La Jolla. It was beautiful and the kids loved playing in the sand.
Overall we had a great trip. I came down with strep throat early in the trip and it was no fun. However, we love going on trips and making new memories.
In other news, Ryan has recently been called into the bishopric in our ward at church. This means that while we do get to see him every Sunday, we don't get to sit with him. Sundays just got a lot harder for me. It's a blessing for our family though and a blessing to the ward.
We also just recently went through our first miscarriage. We were excited to find out we were pregnant, but within a couple weeks, well before any ultrasounds or heartbeats, we lost the baby. While I know it can be a hard thing for many women and families to go through, it wasn't that difficult for us. Had this been our first pregnancy or had we been further along, it would probably have been harder. My personal feeling, and what I take comfort in, is knowing that our bodies have been created in such a way that they know to get rid of something when there is a problem. The baby would not have grown and developed normally and so the body rejects it, and says, "Hey, let's try this again." We certainly do want to add to our family and I feel there's another little baby waiting to come join us. It's in the Lord's hands.
We are doing well here in Tahoe. The weather is beautiful. Zoe will start kindergarten in the fall. Staying at home is fun, but challenging. I sometimes get weary of living here because it is such a touristy town and there are always so many out of towners. I miss having a lot of stores and restaurants to choose from. The nearest Target is 45 minutes away. That's no fun. But things could be worse, and we won't be here forever. I keep reminding myself of that. But right now, it's where we are so I try to make the best of it.
