Ryan and I are apartment managers for the complex we live at. It's a small complex, but is definitely higher-end living. We like our apartment but are looking to move to a 2 bedroom before too long. We currently live in a townhouse with a loft, and while it's nice, we find ourselves outgrowing it. When we do have vacancies (which we thankfully don't have right now), we post signs outside advertising and include a phone number to contact us. Well, a long time ago (how long? I'm not totally sure), someone by the name of Christy Utterback thought it would be a clever idea to take that phone number and give it to telemarketers as her own. Our business phone calls get forwarded to my phone and we seem to go through cycles where we're inundated with calls for Christy Utterback. We're in one of those cycles right now. I generally don't answer calls unless they are fairly local area codes. Over the last couple days, there have been phone calls coming through beginning with +98 or +64, and then 8 digits coming after. Having friends that live outside the country, I know that sometimes international calls look a little funky coming through. My husband suggested it might be someone from Taiwan calling. Whoever it was wasn't leaving any voice mail and I thought that a friend certainly would leave a voice mail. So today, one of those +64 numbers came through and I thought I'd go ahead an answer it. There was a slight pause before someone clicked on and started to talk, asking for "Christy." Now, my name has been butchered in so many ways, especially by telemarketers and junk mailers, and sometimes I'll pretend I'm a "Christina." Not so much with "Christy." So I tell the dude that there is no one here by that name. He doesn't apologize or anything, just hangs up. Silly me, I thought that'd be the end of it. No no. About 2 hours later, that same number appears on my phone as a missed call. I'm going to answer it the next time it does come through, because I have faith that it will, and tell them that Christy is recovering from surgery and is now Christopher.
